After enjoying the very wet winter that filled our Northern California reservoirs and helped to recharge the aquifers, we then experienced a very cool and damp spring.  This year each aspect of the growing season is about a month later than normal due to the weather.  Bud break was in April instead of March, and bloom in June instead of May.  Our altitude influences things too.

What does bloom in a vineyard look like, that is what the blog image shows, our Malbec vines in bloom.  Malbec blossoms have a floral aroma and delicate appearance.

This is a time when we ensure the plants have the right balance of micronutrients, especially boron and zinc which help to realize a good bloom and fruit set.

What is fruit set?  Stay tuned to this blog and you will soon find out ;-).
