It’s been a tumultuous time since purchasing our property in 2010, filled with difficult obstacles such as the loss of our home to devastating wildfires, the passing of loved ones, and periods of joblessness. However, we persevered through it all and learned to cultivate resilience and find hope even in the face of adversity.

We are Enikő and Galen Torneby, and our journey began in 2006. Enikő’s passion for wine grape growing and winemaking stems from her childhood experiences on her grandparents’ farm in Transylvania and continues to flourish at our farm. She has enriched her knowledge by studying viticulture and enology at Santa Rosa Junior College. In addition, Enikő is deeply committed to environmental sustainability. This commitment is reflected not only in her work in the energy industry, but also in her personal life in the vineyard. She strives to implement sustainable practices in every aspect of our operation, ensuring that we protect the land and preserve it for generations to come.

Galen brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to our operations as a clean tech professional. He plays a key role in managing our farm, overseeing everything from tending to the land and vines to ensuring the health and quality of our grapes. Originally from the Seattle, Washington area, Galen’s experience spans across the globe. He shares our dedication to environmental sustainability and works tirelessly to ensure that we employ eco-friendly practices in every aspect of our work.

The Art of Wine Making

Our winemaking journey starts in the vineyard, utilizing cover crops, organic fertilizer, compost, and minimal watering to grow our grapes. After harvesting and crushing, the primary fermentation stage commences for the red wine. Both the 2022 and 2023 harvest seasons yielded exceptional grapes with the perfect Brix and acid balance, resulting in perfect flavors. The red wine then undergoes malolactic fermentation, followed by 14 months of aging in barrels.  

The rosé making requires fewer steps. The grapes are pressed and the juice is fermented to dryness, then it rests in stainless steel tanks for about 4 months, after which the rosé wine is bottled.

Wine Releases

We release our vintages in March, the rosé from the previous year’s harvest and the red wine after 14 months of barrel aging.

3,000 Bottles Produced Per Year

Usually, we harvest around 4 to 6 tons of fruit, which we then divide into half for producing rosé and red wines. This amount of fruit typically yields 3,000 to 4,000 bottles of wine.

Celebrating Success

Celebrating with famiy our first wine from the 2020 harvest. This successful experiment gave us the inspiration to pursue a commercial enterprise in winemaking.

Logo and Brand Explained

Our Tumult™ logo, created by Galen’s son Kyle Torneby, is a unique representation of our journey. It depicts a map of the 2017 California wildfires, with the Tubbs Fire located between the T and U in the word Tumult™. When rotated 90 degrees to the right, the logo fits perfectly into the shape of California. Our story, which encompasses the development of our property, vineyard, and life in California, has been filled with ups and downs, making the logo a fitting representation of our tumultuous journey.
